Information about Beautiful South Central Oregon
South Central Oregon is a geographically diverse area east of the Cascade mountain range. Hundreds of lakes and streams, mountain forests, wilderness areas and the Pacific Flyway provide a virtual paradise of recreation both summer and winter. Breathtaking Crater Lake National Park is the region's most famous landmark.
This beautiful area offers year-round recreation; hiking, camping, boating, fishing and hunting, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, horseback riding, golfing, bird watching...in a pristine natural setting.
Economically, lumber and agriculture, which drew most of the early settlers to the area, today share the scene with diverse retail and service establishments, modern educational and medical facilities and rail, truck and air transportation operations.
At the center of it all is Klamath Falls, known as Oregon's "City of Sunshine" for its approximately 290 days a year of sunny skies. The city has many attractions including a subterranean reservoir of geothermal energy used to heat many homes and businesses, Oregon Institute of Technology and the regional Sky Lakes Medical Center.
South Central Oregon is a modern, progressive area offering economic opportunities and conveniences often found only in much more metropolitan settings all set in a nature lover's paradise.
